Halloween fun facts !

Did you know?

Trick-or-treating- Halloween night in costume, has been a tradition in the United States and other countries for more than a century. Its origins remain unclear, but traces can be identified in ancient Celtic festivals, early Roman Catholic holidays, medieval practices—and even British politics.

In later centuries, people began dressing as ghosts, demons, and other evil-minded creatures, performing pranks in exchange for food and drink. This custom, known as mumming, dates back to the Middle Ages

During some Celtic celebrations of *Samhain villagers disguised themselves in costumes made of animal skins to drive away phantom visitors; banquet tables were prepared, and food was left out to soothe unwelcome spirits.

Halloween evolved from the ancient Celtic holiday of *Samhain over the centuries, Halloween transitioned from a pagan ritual to a day of parties, costumes, jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating for kids and adults.

Although it’s unknown precisely where and when the phrase “trick or treat” was actualized, the custom had been firmly established in American popular culture by 1951, when trick-or-treating was portrayed in the Peanuts comic strip. In 1952, Disney produced a cartoon called “Trick or Treat” featuring Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie.

In the early ‘50s, a brave trick-or-treater could expect treats like: fruit, baked goods, small toys, nuts, and even coins.

As trick-or-treating became more widespread across America, candy also became the preferred treat for practical reasons; after all, if you have a lot of children coming to your door, a wrapped bag of candy is the easy go to snack right?

Now Halloween and candy seem ideally linked, like waffles and syrup, or Salt N Pepper. Did you know- Americans buy 600 million pounds of candy during the  holidays every year.

The Huffington Post points out that this translates to approximately 16 billion- fun-size Snickers bars.

Traditional candy, like snickers- butterfingers ..  is considered refined sugar.

Refined sugar is not  adding value to our health, where natural sugars can add value, according to science today.

Refined sugar has been proven to lower one’s natural immune response, weakening our body to fight off infections & viruses.

*For detailed explanations check out- Nutritionfacts.org

Natural sugars are found in foods- like  fruit.. rich in fiber, other health-promoting nutrients and compounds, making them more beneficial than refined sugars.

When kids consume to much refined sugar, it can weaken their immune systems, leaving them open for infections & viruses.

Some thoughts and ideas:

  • Try a Family talent show at home; Get everyone involved and make it fun for the whole family. This could start a whole new tradition and get the kids excited to learn something new. Award the winner with something exciting. This doesn’t have to be food or candy; it could be a toy they have been hoping for or some special fun planned just for them; like a bike ride or family trip.
  • If you want to have treats available for kids stopping by, consider healthier choices than traditional candy: Many stores have organic types of hand wrapped treats that are healthier than traditional candy.

    1. Thank-you, I appreciate you visiting and your kind words. Im a new blogger since 2020.
I had a company called Bluehost put it together in the very beginning. They did a extreme basic web development.
It was expensive and I didn’t feel their services were worth it so I canceled. I have since changed hosting companies to Tigertech.net
They offer a much faster platform for less. Their service is exceptional. In terms of design ? well this is a constant challenge.
I haven’t found a tech that can help. I found that they are either good with tech or design. I have a company that helps me with my wp needs and they are affordable and excellent with service; but they don’t handle design specific. If you would like to connect with them I receive a referral fee for connecting people directly. Please let me know; email me @ choixdvie@gmail.com Attn: Joyce
Thanks again, Please subscribe download a free book and Be happy!
